I drive my 280sl in and out of London every day, rain or shine. Any little coughs or splutters are just that and disappear as quickly as they arrived. The more I use it the better it is. Today I drove about 150 miles and God is the engine note sweet. Yes, I know....it is serviced fully every six months and I bought it to enjoy driving...and enjoy it I do!!

I've got a summer and winter daily driver.
Summer is a 94 E500,  (W124),  and in the winter a Honda Ridgeline.  Still ugly in my eyes,  but the perfect all rounder for Canadian winters,  pulling the boat and acrage duties!  And the Honda Family Van!?

'91 Honda Accord Coupe commuter and whenever I have more than 1 passenger.... 258k miles and still strong ... 75 - 85 mph all day long. I bought new in '91, then it went thru 2 teen-agers over an 8 year period... so I had to replace the engine after 228k miles... kids wreck engines and clutches (5 speed manual).

'02 SL500 Sport is my wife's ride... (23.5k miles)...I get to drive it on trips.

'94 SL500 is my wife's former ride... now for sale.

'65 C20 (Chevy Long Bed, Panel Side, 3/4 ton heavy duty, overload shocks, 327 4BBL, Headers, Dual Exhaust with cross-over, 4 Speed Granny Low (house puller), original rear-end (also house puller)... my most reliable transportation used whenever I need something that won't fit in the trunk of the '91 honda.... haul stuff to dump, haul rock/gravel, lumber, fertilizer, pallet's of brick, whatever needs to be hauled or towed. Probably 40k - 50k on the 327.... who knows how many miles since new.... I bought it in '75 for $650 with caved in bed rails, doors, a 283 and 3 speed on the column that I replaced 3 - 4 times before I finally had the 327 built to last at 5k rpm all day long, with a 6k redline, 4 spd with granny low, heavy duty clutch... and my Dad took car of the body work & paint.  Having the 327 built (with high compression heads) for it was the best investment I ever made on a vehicle (besides the '67 W113)... 15 going on 20 years ago. Use to use it with a dual point mechanical advance, but I was sucking too much gas with a heavy foot on accelerations (but what acceleration!)... so have toned it back down to a single point vacuum advance... truck still goes fast, but doesn't accelerate like it did, so I took the thrill out.  I love the truck (cab looks like I live on a farm... the only vehicle I own that I can honestly not feel guilty about not cleaning... but I keep the engine tuned and mechanic's in top notch shape)... my wife hate's the truck as an eyesore, truck suspension, noise.

'67 250SL for summer, spring, communtes 2x-3x per week & bay area visits to bro, sis's sis-in-laws, 1st Sunday Drives, week-end shopping sometimes when whether's fine for top-down travel, occassional winter drives top up when mood strikes.

I've used my '64 230SL (retired now) for about 5 years as an almost daily driver, now have a '68 280SE Coupe W111 and a 2003 CLK W209. For work I use either a W202 C-Class or a Mercedes Sprinter !

Besides our silver 1964 230 SL Pagoda we own a silver W124 230E now with 168.000 km on the clock. We bought it many years ago and it has been entirely reliable. For summer use we just purchased an absolutely mint 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 in silver metallic - still with the original paint in faultless condition. This beauty has covered a total of 64.800 km (approx. 40.000 miles)from new and came with a stamped service book indicating that all services have been done by Porsche dealers. Even the original tool set and the special compressor for the occacional spare wheel was included together with owners manual in German and English. Even the battery is an original Porsche battery!I wanted to wait until spring to buy one, but we have been searching for a low mileage 3.2 for a long time and suddently the right candidate showed up. So what to do rather than snap it up? Its's now hibernating together with the Pagoda and we can't wait to get them on the road next spring!

I am currently enjoying a new S500 lent to me as a customer courtesy car by DaimlerChrysler UK for six weeks while my CL500 daily driver has yet more corrosion repairs. The S500 is brilliant and despite the imminent first recall rumour my view is that the quality on this car is back up to MB's historical standards.

The family load lugger is an E320 CDI estate which we had "chipped" with a Brabus ECU. It is a great blend of performance/economy/comfort and space. Not too reliable though!

I used my Pagodas as daily drivers May through to September without one let down - and really enjoyed it. However, as road salting began last week in Scotland its time to hide them for the winter which is always a sad moment.

Andrew

Awwww...the deux chevaux two-tone. The Bertone tin snail...adorable.  Burgundy and black, right Joe?  There are still a lot of them careening around France. Great ride.

The Megatronix 280SL on display at Tom Sargant's last month had heated seats.  Switches were hidden conveniently in the ashtray.  Shouldn't be too difficult to get a good aftermarket installer to add them to your Pagoda.  I work for a dealer and we put them in for customers all the time for a couple of hundred dollars per seat.  No reason not to dump the Beemer now!  ;^)

In another post, "K" indicated he purchased a Ford GT last summer.  Earlier in the fall I saw a dozen or so of these heading north on the Pacific Coast Highway between Ventura and Santa Barbara.  It was a beautiful sight and the sound was even better.

For the rest of us to fantasize about other rides, you might enjoy these pictures a Cayman S owning friend took at Crystal Cove, which is between Newport Beach and Laguana Beach.  Scroll down past the various replies to see some beautiful and exotic cars.

In one of those pictures, there was a Pagoda next to a Ford GT/GT40.
