sluggish takeoff
« on: November 16, 2006, 15:24:45 »
My car is feeling sluggish at take off, like there is a fuel block that clears itself or as if it will stall when I put my foot down from lights. I can imagine bits of rust blocking a mesh but this cant be the case as it is too constant and nothing out of the ordinary has happen. My routine regarding fill ups and tank levels hasnt changed. It runs beautifully once I get going. Any ideas? I have been told that the manual fuel pump needs looking at but somehow this doesnt seem to feel like the right advice. Has anyone had the same?

Is yours a W113 or R107 SL?

As for the W113, I would look at the fuel delivery, linkages and settings (I had the symptoms you describe once, and it turned out to be a loose linkages bracket on the intake manifold), spark plugs and wires, ignition timing/dwell - in short, the basic tuning stuff.

Hello Nick,

Follow Cees' good advice. Sometimes the ignition points can cause problems like this if the gap is too tight. A fuel pressure and volume test will help diagnose any problems in the fuel delivery system.

this is interesting as it started after having had my coil and electronic ignition fitted earlier this week. This is on my new 113.
