This must be my lucky week as I have seen two.  One was parked on the side of the road in San Franscico where I was traveling on business, not sure of the correct color but it was a beige or very pale yellow.   I returned home to Alexandria and saw another -- same color -- about a mile from my house while I was heading to work one morning.

Always brings a smile to my face.

Hi Guys,

Coming home in Monster (de Tomaso Longchamp; 6 litre engine, suave Italian body) from the Klosters Classic on Sunday--gorgeous weather all over Switzerland.  In the middle of Biel, we saw a 230SL in lovely light metallic blue.  Of course, she was topless, and the couple in her looked happy.  No wonder!

I see about one a week in Santa Barbara or in Southern California.  That's probably the exception, though, because if you drive through Malibu or on the Ventura freeway east of Thousand Oaks, Porsches and Bentley GTs are a dime a dozen wiht Hollywood crowd. In the last couple of months on the Venura Freeway just east of Santa Barbara, I have seen a 300 SL roadster, a gullwing and two Porsche Carerra GTs.

If you think seeing a Pagoda is rare these days, think of this:  Last weekend I was tooling around in the Pagoda near my mountain place in the Virginia and I came across a Renault Alpine approaching in the other direction.  He waved, I waved, and we both pulled over to check out each other's cars.  That thing is tiny and LOW - and a lot better looking in person than in pictures!

The other night I went to the cigar lounge at the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena.  There were a dozen or so Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches, etc. parked outside and one light ivory Pagoda with the top down.  When I came outside, even with all those other "supercars" around, there was a crowd of 4 or 5 people gathered around the Pagoda glaring in admiration!

I spot one in the greater Los Angeles area about once every 6 months or so.

The event had over 190 cars - all of which had a police escorted convoy through Stuttgart to front of house parking at the new museum

Not a bad day out. Although a hell of a drive home, mostly in the pouring rain. 565 miles in 9.5 hours - which I am sure you've spotted is averaging 60mph - including all rest stops, tolls, traffic queues....getting out of Stuttgart/into central London..[:p]

I live in Vancouver BC now, and have seen 3 W113s in downtown Vancouver in the last few weeks - a red one on Thurlow and Georgia Steet, a light blue 280SL who was just parking his car on Thurlow near Barlay, and a dark green one several times (or several dark green ones) on Denman street.  I think the beautiful weather brings the beautiful cars out.

Saygold and wgl0,

look in "Events" for the Seattle gathering at Craig's in September.  Hopefully all attendees will see a few more Pagodas than usual!  I plan to be there and will drive up the day before from Portland.

In the past month or so since I've really been paying attention, I've seen four.  One cream/off white driving on Beverly in Beverly Hills, one light blue parked at a house on Riverside? in Burbank, a silver parked in the parking lot for the Four'n 20 restaurant in Valley Village, and a black driving somewhere that escapes me right now.  Have yet to have the chance to meet another owner though.  Hope to soon.

My wife and I came up on one last night aroung 10:30 on I-66 in Gainesville.  We continued together in traffic for almost 45 minutes until the Gold 230SL turned north onto I-395.  Looked and sounded great!

On my way to a round-table discussion about Sarbanes-Oxley (don't ask) this afternoon, I passed a nice blue 280 SL near the city of Utrecht. Always a nice surprise.
Last weekend I was driving my own SL on the highway around Amsterdam, and someone honked and waved at me - turned out to be a colleague from work who knows my car and thought "that's probably Cees". I guess we oftentimes pass people we know on the road, only we don't notice them because of the bland daily drivers we all tend to have.

Saw another one (dark, dark blue this time) parked on one of the Amsterdam canals as we passed in our motor boat. Older cars seem to go better than modern ones with the historic city centers here.

Not often enough lately! On September 1, I drove from Santa Barbara to the LA airport area for a meeting. Nothing.  Nice drive back in the afternoon, though.  Three days in Monterey last week. Nothing. Football game at the Rose Bowl yesterday. Nothing.  German Auto Fest (Porsche only) in Ventura today. Nothing. I've seen dozens of really great cars the last few weeks, but nary a Pagoda. I used to see at least one a week in Central/Southern California, but not another one for last two months.

Let's get those Pagodas on the road folks!

Not a real exotic sighting, but I saw a 280 SL in a parking garage near LAX on October 17.  Red, tan, tan soft top.  It looks quite similar to mine, but maybe not in quite as good condition. I was in a hurrying to get home, so I didn't study it.

After a meeting the next couple of days, I'm staying in Monterey for the American LeMans Series races, so I hope to run across some Pagodas here.

Rod,

Don't forget to download and print some of these cards.  You can put them under windshield wipers of Pagodas you see around Monterey (or where ever you might be).

After a very long dry spell, I finally spotted another Pagoda. It was white with hardtop, probably a 230 (I just drove by quickly in my own) on Coast Village Road, Montecito (Santa Barbara) CA and it had a for sale sign on it.
