Last night driving to dinner I spotted a black 230SL parked in front of a shop. I pulled right in and started oogling and the shop owner came out and said I was looking at the only car not for sale. The strange part is it is the same body color as mine 040 black, it seems to be a very rare color. It is also the same model year, except later, as it has the flasher switch on the dash not under the dash. I noticed right away the front of the hood didn't line up and sure enough the shop had done a body resto about 5 years ago. I noticed it didn't have the little bumps on the front fenders where it meets the headlight chrome. I inquired if they had repaired the spot and the shop owner said they used all new MB body panels and the notches weren't there. I let him know this is a sure way of telling if these cars had been repaired. I gave him my card to give to the owner, maybe he/she is on this site. Or I could get another sicko fanatic for our group. It is still strange to see my cars almost exact match one town away, what odds. They had a perfect 51 Lincoln convertable, a fully restored, to the tune of $21,000, 1951 Crosley station wagon, what a nice little car, and due to a divorce it has an $8000.00 asking price, if anyone is interested I can get the owners info. I will drive my 230SL over later next week to show off, my poor old original paint, Peacock abused almost perfect running version.
