Dial guage?

I want to invest in a dial guage for both of my Mercedes-Benzs. the purpose of this tool would be to check the brake rotor run out and how much pay is in the hub when replacing and serving front wheel bearing.
What kind of specifications tollerances should I be asking for. I also need a magnetic holder that will fit the hub. The two automobiles are a 1968 280SL and a 1992 W124 300-E sedan. I would prefer to make an attempt to purchase ditial from metric to inchs.

What I think I need more than referrals to store sites are the tolerances and specifications the dial indicator has to meet in order to complete the task it is specified for. Being a novas I cannot just walk into a store and buy just any dial guage with out first knowing the particulars in which to choose the right model"tool " for the job
1) hub play after replacing wheel bearing .
2) disk brake rotor run out how trued is the rotor or is it in need of replacment.
I would like to hear some more details please.

I would look into Mitutoyo if you are looking for quality in a digital tool. I have had a few of their tools for years and they constantly amaze me with their accuracy and durability.

If price is more of a factor they all perform reasonably well.

Mitutoyo, Brown & Sharpe, and Starrett are all considered comparable quality. Good deals on ebay.

Lots of machine shops use these, and the accuracy for what you want to do is just fine.

I bought mine from harbor freight.

the magnetic base was about $25
a digital dial indicator (mm and in) was about $15
