water pump: short-hub vs long-hub
« on: January 30, 2007, 16:33:35 »
Hallo all,

I was about to purchase a new water pump for my 250 (129.98x), but discovered there were two types: the short-hub 105mm (1102001020) and the long-hub 135mm (1102000920). I thought the long-hub version was only an option for the 130.xxx engine? (depending on the pulley used)

Is there a way to tell which one I already have on the engine without removal?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Waqas,

I replaced my water pump when I removed my air-conditioning.  With air-conditioning, you need the water pump with the shorter shaft/hub.  Without air-conditioning, the water pump with the longer hub is used.  Also, a different pulley is req'd based on which pump is used (with or w/o air).

Attached picture shows my old and new pump.

Thanks very much for the pic, Bob! Very kind of you...

I've concluded that mine is the short hub, but I'll be able to confirm this once I remove the pulley during installation. The pump is enroute... let the waiting begin!

During all this, I noticed some belts starting to fray. Anything special about the belts? Or will any v-belt from the local auto store work fine? (with the correct length, of course)

Muchas Gracias,

Hi Wagas,

I recall having a hard time finding a belt that would properly fit.  I ended up just bringing home several from NAPA auto parts store and, throught trial and error, finding one that fit.

Not sure if others had a similar issue?
