Foot Pedal Pads

The gas pedal pad and the brake pedal pad on my 230SL are both worn down. I saw a gas pedal pad, on Ebay, that supposedly was for a 230SL. When I received it, I saw it was different than the one on my car. It didn't have the two holes at the bottom and had a rubber nipple protruding from near the base. Is this a replacement pad, which is suppose to go over the original, or is it a pad for another model Mercedes? I went searching for a brake pedal pad and all I could find were clutch pedal pads. I called Nercedes Classic about and was told the clutch and brake pedal use the same pad. I gave him the number on my old pad, 110 291 0182 and was told the pad has been superceded by number 113 291 0182. The pads are not the same. The old one being flat and the newer one having a piece of rubber going around the right side of the pedal. The guy, at Mercedes told me the newer ones are the only ones being made and that is what the old number refers to now. I told him it seemed a bit smaller than the other pad and was told, Mercedes says to make it fit. I have enclosed some pictures of the gas pedal pad.

What you have purchased is a pedal pad, meant to go over your worn pedal, I think you need to cut or trim the original rubber from the metal core in order to get it to fit properly (at least that is what I found I had to do).  But if you want the real deal, you can still get a complete accel. pedal from SLS.  They show the pedal for a manual as available, the one for automatic is probably back ordered.

Old reliable eBay.  Here is the list of suppliers that we try to keep updated.  SLS is listed, it is in Europe.  There are many places you can go to for new parts.  Call several - find the ones who know their Pagodas, are helpful, and pleasant to work with.  You'll get the right parts.

Hey Rolf, did you ever get the pad thing straightened out?

I guess this is a good thing but I just noticed my brake pedal pad has worn through to metal! Also my gas pad is pretty shot. I'd love some more input on who found what where and how much? Thanks.

Can't speak for the brake pad, but I got a new gas pedal from SLS. I had to put in new floor pans on the drivers' side. The old pedal was shot as was the metal fitting welded to the floor pan. I got the metal part (with the 2 round protrusions on) and the new pedal (metal covered in rubber with holes to receive the bits on the other part(!)) from SLS. I think the pedal was about 60 euros and the part for the floor was about 14 euros. Incidentally, I also picked up a new and identical pedal at the Techo Classica at Essen this Mar. It was half the price. They do come up on ebay quite often. The SLS pedal comes with the OEM packing but clearly there is a 3rd party manufacturer out there selling to them and MB - and to the Dutch guy I met at Essen.

Hi all, I'm reviving this thread rather than start a new one because I want to refer to the 2 photos that Rolf (from Colorado) posted of the gas pedal rubber in the original post. I got myself one of these. (It came from Benzrestorer on eBay but it was on for a 1/3 of the price that's posted on eBay now at http://www.ebay.ca/itm/gas-pedal-for-Mercedes-w108-w110-w111-w112-w113-/261304876015?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd6fbfbef )

The first thing that I'm not sure about is removing the old, worn rubber pedal cover. I can't find this mentioned anywhere here. Mine seems to have glued itself to the metal pedal. Should I just scrape it off?

Do I have to detach the metal pedal from the linkage at the top and the pivot at the bottom in order to swap the new rubber cover on?

The new piece of rubber doesn't have a hole at the middle of the bottom end where the screw could go, so should I just make a hole there?

Hi, I fitted one of the rubber accelerator pedal overlays to my 280SL, from SLS, some time ago. I had a devilish job hacking the old rubber off in postion but eventually it fitted. Recently I was fitting a new carpet and mentioned to drmb how difficult it was to fit around the accelerator pedal.  He told me how to pop the accelerator pedal out of the bottom two pins (just pull the pedal bottom out by hand) and then lift the pedal up to horizontal at which postion the pedal should slide out sideways! Duh!

You can then fit the pedal into a vice and cut the old rubber off with a box knife or similar.
