Rodd,

You're thinking of the newsletter as another mini Pagoda World. I'm referring to the kind of content we were just kicking around -- things like the club's events being cheerfully reported or the ones scheduled to take place announced in writing.

Hey Rodd - I believe what Doug was suggesting with the "look what you're missing" is that non-full members get a taste of what full members get beyond the website: besides knowing you're providing the funds necessary to run the website, getting a hard-copy publication from time to time at home. So if we were to post the newsletter as a pdf on the site, downloadable for all members, this could serve as an encouragement to sign up for the full membership. Then if there are full members who are content with just receiving the pdf electronically rather than via snail mail, they could let us know and we'd all save some on postage (and work, it took me a few hours to copy, fold, glue and mail those 75 'rest-of-world' letters!). Please keep the ideas and opinions coming here, and we'll discuss them all in our next Board conference call.

I think it's a matter of content -- if you skew the newsletter to more club-related info and PW to more Pagoda-related content, I think you may be able to generate more interest in the group by circulating an electronic version of the newsletter.

I folded them twice, with two seals for sturdiness; I would be surprised if they get damaged, but I suppose with the North American experience in mind, we can only hope!
Total cost of printing plus postage was only $100 for these 70 copies BTW.

Hey Cees,

My copy of the Newsletter arrived today (Wednesday 14th March).

When the committee decides about the final delivery options for members, if email is one of the options please include me on that list.

Okay folks, the second edition of the newsletter is in the mail. We made some modifications (tri fold and heavier paper) to see if this improves the arrival condition.

Let us know, and also if there are any suggestions for future topics, also post those.

EIC (Editor in Chief) of the newsletter that is.

And as soon as I have the DIN-format newsletter, I will get it out to those members not located in North America.

Since you asked....

(1) The charter takes too much space! Perhaps the font can be reduced and other content added.

(2) The web links are incomplete and should be altogether left out. Perhaps a single link to the parts/links section of our website.

(3) Instead: a quick recap/list of the most notable 5 or 10 threads/topics since the last newsletter. This would be good for eliciting more web participation from dormant folk.

(4) I like the search tips article-- good effort to reduce repeat posts/threads.

(5) I'd love to see more articles (even if they get shorter)... so how about some included info as to how one can contribute? (a simple pointer to a web URL might be adequate)

Enough feedback? [:p]

Mine was in the mail box (all in one piece) when I got back from traveling this week.

Waqas, thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate the information. The next edition will be just before BlackLick. I will try to continue to improve.

To let the group know:

After our board meeting at Blacklick this past weekend, we have decided to modify the timing of Pagoda Notes and Pagoda World a bit. Our intent is to publish PW twice a year, and PN four times. This will put a hard copy out to the group (PNotes to EU and North Am.) every other month. Since PWorld is just going out, I am going to hold off on PNotes for a bit and add another page, which will cover Blacklick 07. I will also put together an article for the Star magazine for MBCA.
