Aluminum Strip - Carpet Hold-Down
« on: March 21, 2007, 07:35:34 »
 :) Hi All!

Has anyone had any luck with removing the dents and fixing the aluminum strips (left & right side) used to hold down the carpet along the inner edge of the doors?  Mine are really dented and as I replace my carpet, they seem to show the dents and scuffs more....

Also, I bent my right one up as I tried to remove it[:(!] :( .  For some reason, there was one extra screw on the outer front edge by the door, which was holding this side down.  I didnt see it and thought the piece was just stuck on some extra glue...  That's what I get for working in the dark...

If not, has anyone found a reasonable source for these.  SLS has them, but they list for $240 each side[:0].  That's a lot of dough[:0]!

Suggestions, comments?
Thanks!
Bob

Bob

I have two extra NOS carpet trim stips, but they are both for the right side.
(correction) I went out and opened the packages and found out the two strips are in fact left outer threshold mouldings. Sorry I should have looked first before posting

Well, if anyone finds an inexpensive (relat.) alternative to new, let me know! Mine are really bumpy and wavy too.

Bob,

Have you checked with K&K.  I just installed mine this weekend and they look great.  Looking forward to our Kauai tech session.

Hi Jim,

Yes, spoke to Cheryl at K&K.  She will have some after-market ones available within 1-2 months for about 1/2 the cost of OEM.  K&K sells the OEMs for ~$190 ea.
