Max Hoffman Article in NYT
« on: March 25, 2007, 00:33:46 »
An excellent synopsis of the life of the man who was instrumental in the growth of Mercedes-Benz in the USA, as well as the creation of the 300 SL, BMW 507 and 2002, and Porsche Speedster:

Jim,

Thanks for having the foresight to pull it down and post it elsewhere.  I hate the WSJ and NYT for their subscription stuff, I pay $300 a year for the WSJ and they want MORE for on-line access.

I guess I read that article the day of or after publication before they put it behind bar$.

In days when I had some Alfa Giulietta Spiders, the Alfa guys on forums claimed that Dustin Hoffman was related to Max Hoffman, and there was some connection there as to why an Alfa Duetto was so featured in the movie The Graduate.  Have no clue if it's really true.  In any case, I do miss the old Giulietta Spider, a jewel of a car and the last hand built and classic Alfas. The sound of the little 1300cc 4C working was something... when it was working.
