PORTLAND AREA BEWARE-
A friend bought this vehicle from a New car dealer 10 days ago -- the dealer sold it as a 1967-250SL (thats what the clean title says). Doing research on the car it was discovered to be a 1966-230SL or a pieced together car. The chassis VIN under the air manifold is hammered off so the only id is the screw on plate and that is for a July 1966-230SL according to the Mercedes Data Card he received from Mercedes Classic. The back of the car has a 250SL emblem and has the side reflectors of the 250SL. The dash is split like a 230SL, the engines motor number 127 981 12 004795 does match the screw on plate. The Title on this car is definitely not correct.
After MUCH hassle and legal threats my friend finally got the dealer to rescind the transaction yesterday and got his money back. The dealer never admitted the car is not a 1967 250SL and I fear they will try and resell it to another buyer.
This car is definitely only a parts car with the mixed heritage. Also lots of body rust thru so if you look at this car beware.
