A new database/photobase for us to make
« on: April 21, 2007, 15:27:13 »
I think it would be a great addition to the site if we could make a photo base showing examples of our cars referenced to the factory colors.
So if we clicked on the color# a photo example of the vehicle would popup. Surely between all of us we have most of the colors. Same for interiors.

On a similar note...I wonder if the classic center has records of how many of which options/option combinations were produced. I would think it would be possible with work to put that all in a database so you could search for how many cars were produced with A/C...then see how many had A/C and parchement interior with a 5 speed etc.

This would shed some light on how rare is rare.

I think Jerry has an important point in that this forum needs a little change/additions. One thing that I would like to see is that we seperate the "general issues" section into two forums of technical issues and then another for gossip talk so-to-speak. I see more and more posts of people not getting the help they need on some technical problem because their posts quickly gets pushed to page 2.

In my opinion it's the greatest thing about this forum, and what sets it apart is that you normally receive excellent technical assistance. I have a friend who has an E-type and the greatest forum for that car is all about registration, photos and show-off with very little emphasis on technically issues and help from knowledgeable people.

I think this forum is alive and kicking, but that a few additions or revisions would make it even better. What's your opinion and suggestions out there???

When this group was founded, one of the goals was to publish a W113 manual, first on the web in Wikipedia format, then as a book, which would serve as the ultimate reference to W113 issues. Various members were selected to write chapters for this book. My chapter, W113 data cards and codes, includes a list of the color codes with photos for most of the available colors - of course many of these photos are from this website.
Lately, it looks that the idea of this manual has died, maybe due to time constraints, or due to copyright issues, I don't know.
Both the Classic Center in Germany as well as here in the US have microfiche for all W113 produced, as well as the data cards, but they are not in a data base. It would be possible to establish such a data base, but for DaimlerChrysler such an endeavour certainly right now has zero priority.
Statistics on A/C would not be included in this anyway, since A/C never was a factory option but always dealer installed.

Hello Klaus - the manual had not been forgotten, but it is as you mention due to time constraints that we have not kicked it off yet. Peter van Es prepared a Wiki-format environment, but it is not yet ready for launch. We did get about 25 volunteers to step forward to all help out, but the coordination of all of those efforts is a pretty big task by itself, and we don't have that organized yet. If anybody would like to take that task on (figure at least a couple of hours a week, on average, for maybe three to four years before it's all done) please drop me an email.

Yes that 190SL site was exactly what I was talking about.

I thought option 493: Heavy duty heat exchanger on the data card was A/C

I just noticed I have option 401 single seats...was there something else? An SL with bench seats...now that would be rare.
