Becker amp placement

I just picked up a 1964 Becker radio to give my 230sl an even more Original look and feel.  Question: where do I mount the the amp?  Does it go behind the glove box?  Does anyone have a picture or description of how they mounted the amp?

Hello Steve,

Yes, it mounts on the firewall behind the glovebox using a special bracket.

Thanks Joe.  I have the bracket but I have been unable to find room on the firewall behind the glove box.  The amp is too big to mount horizontally or vertically without cutting into something.  Did your's wedge it pretty tightly?

Tom at Becker suggested that it mounts behind the radio.  I'll give that a go next but it seems a bit tight in there too.  Do you (or anyone else) have some digital pix of the amp mounted in the car?

Also, what's the best place to hook up the power?  The dealer (in 1964) had wired the Blaupunkt to the courtesy light power but that seems a bit awkward.

As I did not have the original bracket I mounted my amp to the top of the A/C unit with brackets I made up.  My radio is wired though the auxiliary fuse box next to the radiator overflow tank.

My '64 has the amp mounted to the firewall, above the passenger footwell, oriented vertically. It is invisible from any view.  I am fairly sure it is the original mount, which is a large wing-bolt that threads though the hole in the amp and fastens into the threaded hole in the firewall.  It is a huge pain to mount because of the blind hole.  You might want to check first to see if you have the hole in the amp and the firewall.

on my 66 230SL the amp bracket was located as described by "g"  (see picture) but the amp was clippd into the bracket and secured by an additional strap. You should be able to find the the caged clip-on nut just below the bracket holding the radiator overflow tank on the firewall.  Power cable comes through right next to the caged nut.

Thanks for the pics and the information.  I found the square hole and the amp should fit.  The problem was that I was trying to use the bracket that came with the amp and it was too large.  The amp has the pass through hole so I should be able to secure the amp by fashioning a backing plate to hold the amp and running a bolt right through to the firewall.

Again, many thanks to all.  The radio and amp are installed and playing nicely through a new Becker speaker (the radio has an MP3 adapter so the maiden voyage consisted of hits from 1964 courtesy of Napster.)  Here's the final product...

With an A/C unit, the A/C installation manual call for this to be mounted high up on the right side of the transmission tunnel. Yes it is quite visible when mounted but that is what the manual calls for believe it or not.
