stalk switch

wow it's been four years, I am almost done first of all let me thank everyone that has ever written a question and or a response this forum is awesome!!!!!!! My 230 is ready I have finally driven it twice in the past week. It's better then I expected and the car is beautiful: the color combination is black (050) with a 249 bamboo from gahh single stage. I will post pictures next week. Now to my question my 230 is a european model s/n # 1207 very early model november of 1963.  when re-assembling I found out that the stalk switch was not returning properly and that one of the 2 black wires that goes into the lever was severed, so I embarked on buying a new one which I found and installed this morning however evrytime I engage the left signal it blows fuse #5 when I replace it with the old switch the fuse is ok but the lever wont hold in either the left or right position. Can someone shed some light on my problem or has anyone experienced the same problem

Hi Bob,

I could not pull out the link to http://index.php?topic=554
Has this link been removed?
I am preparing myself to dissassemble a 280SL signal switch.

Thanks, Harry

My stalk wouldn't hold like that and it was just a spring on the back of the switch came disconnected. I just removed the switch and took some needle nose and put the spring back on with the switch still connected.

Hey Harry,
The link was in the old format so it won't work.
Najs' link to the Tech manual article will give you more info.

cheers

1970 280SL. System Admin of the site. Please do not mail or PM me questions on Pagoda's... I'm not likely to know the answer.  Please post on the forum instead!

if you happen to speak german, there is a great detailed pictorial instruction on the Pagodentreff in Germany website:

http://www.pagodentreff.de/artikel/blinkerkombischalterreparieren.html

if need be, I guess I coul translate it if you are in no great hurry.
