Here's a free tip for all of you. In fact, it's also a tip for myself, if we ever start working on this humongous technical manual.
If you see a topic (for instance the now famous
index.php?topic=5003]linkage tour[/url]), and you'd like a copy to take with you into the garage, have a look at the top of the topic. There's a link there called
Printer Friendly. Press this one for instance and you'll see the linkage tour in printer friendly format. Ready to print out, or indeed to cut and paste into another document or application.
Other benefits of the printer friendly layout are:
- the posts appear in time order from top to bottom, so not like the order in the forums, which is optimised for frequent visitors who can just read the new posts quickly. The printer friendly layout is ideal if you want to get a chronological overview of the content.
- the printer friendly layout adds all the posts in all the pages of the forum onto a single, large page. So no more cumbersome page-by-page navigation.
- If pictures have been added in-line in the post they will appear in-line in the printer friendly layout. Pictures that are only an attachment do not appear in the layout, which is a big disadvantage. So please, can everyone follow the instructions here http://www.sl113.org/forums/faq.asp#GetForum which tells you how to put your pictures in-line with the text. Scroll down to the bottom of the topic!
For a look of how slick this can be, check out this
printer friendly photo-post.
Do note that creating this page can take some time because the database needs to be traversed for all articles, and all pictures need to be downloaded at once!
