Oil pump drive freedom

JA17 et al.  The head is off a 220SE engine, the chain is loose, the crank and some pistons are frozen, the oil pump/tach/dist/FI pump sprocket drive is frozen.  Should not this sprocket be free to turn by hand?

Maybe not by hand but probably with a socket/rachet, but with the rest of the engine sooo frozen, the FI pump and/or oil pump or drives gear could be rusty too...
You could remove the tach/oil pump drive spindle and try again...

Hello Glenn,

Yes it sould be free.  This sprocket drives the injection pump, oil pump, distributor and tachometer. If any one of these items are stuck the sprocket will not turn. Eliminate them one at a time.  Good chance it may be the distributor stuck? In addition the timing gears could be rusted and stuck? Just some guesses....
