Portofino....aaahhhh...I remember the town well.  I took an Italian cooking class there some years back.  When I was there, unfortunatley I did not see any Pagodas.

Cheers,

When you see a Pagoda on the side of the road, it's site-seeing. When it's an Alfa, it's injection-related. :-)

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful.

thanks Paul, brought back the 5 wonderful years we had living near Portofino at Santa Margherita. Had not migrated to the Pagoda by then but had a superb Giulietta Spider Veloce which was a total rebuild.

That car is stunning. Thanks for sharing, Rob. (No offense intended with the Alfa Spica fuel injection joke.)

Hello Doug,

Yes, this was also what I realized, a nice joke.
But honestly? Weren't the Alfas of those (= our) days (60ies and early 70ies) all carburetor-fitted cars? Maybe the 8-cylinder Montreal was not but the others? Giulia, Giulietta, etc.? I think they all had Webers, don't they?

Best,

Douglas, no offense at all taken! Yes the car was beautiful, but she had to go, just sitting in a garage for the 5 years I was in Korea would have done her no good at all. In fact I could not believe the deterioration after her sitting for just 3 months. Someone in the UK got an abolute beauty wished I could trace the new owner!
The positive side is that it allowed me to go the W113 route when I knew I was heading closer to home. I at least now get to drive her every couple of months, but she is in dehumidified storage at least. As a testiment to the reliability, having sat for 10 weeks I jumped in and covered over 1,000 miles on the Three Castles Tour and after sitting a further 9 weeks I went back to do another 800 miles on the Devils Own High Roads Tour. She never missed a beat.

Rob:

[1] What year is the Alfa Veloce?, and [2] Where did she come from?

I ask because my father had the identical one (1960) - same year that I had the more mild version, the Guiletta Spyder.  We lived in NE Ohio and the car was traded for another Alfa in 1964 (he had a string of 10 of them, ending with a 1992, which he bought when he was 82.  [BTW, he always considered his Alfas to be more of a sportscar than my 280SL (acquired in 1970), calling the W113 "a German Thunderbird".]

Regards,

David

David, she had always been in Italy. Initially registered to a Milanese gentleman, then to Forli on the Adriatic Riviera then finally to the owner of the largest Alfa Carrozzeria. He ownded it for about 20 years when it went through the restoration.

What a suprise, opened this months Classic and Sportscar only to see my old Giulietta featured. Now I can start to trace the new owner.
Sorry not W113 but isn't it just great to see one of your old cars in a magazine feature and still looking and driving great!
