Another amusing fact regarding VA antique plates.  The tags are permanent - you don't pay an annual renewal.  So pay the extra $10 for the custom tag, and wear it as long as you have the car.  My 6.9 has "6PNT9".

Those of us with Virginia Antique plates, be aware of this:  VA DMV is sending out letters requiring owners of antique registered vehicles to sign an affidavit that they own a regularly registered VA vehicle, AND that the antique registered vehicle meets the safety standards for its year of manufacture, AND that is is capable of being operated safely on public roads.  If VA DMV does not receive a signed affidavit for EACH antique registered vehicle before their cut-off date (sometime this fall, I think...) they will inactivate that registration as of 12-31-2007.
