Data Plate Decode Please

I found a metal plate that obviously was rivited onto the car at some time in the past.  Rivets appear to be drilled out. Found loose in the glove box with other papers. 68 280SL.

This is a stamped steel plate(Complete with some Rust)

               181 H  181   H   6
               113044 12    7
                  00153    81107

Can any of you help with what all this means??

Best is if you search here around for "option codes2 and "data plates".
Your plate belongs onto the top of the bracket that holds the relais and the latch of the engine hood on inner left fenderin the engine bay .

426 = 42/6 power steering and automatic transmission
491 = 49/1 US version
503 = 50/3 left rearview mirror mounted
181 H 181 H: body and hardtop color = light beige, Herberts was the supplier (
6:  car came with softtop and hardtop mounted
113044: 280 SL chassis
12:  left hand drive and automatic
7: US (or Canada) delivery

00153: production number
81107: body number.

Hopefully I didn't mix anything up here. I recalled everything from my poor memories.

Have you already ordered your data card from the Mercedes-Benz Classic center?

Thank you Achim,  I'll look in the engine bay as you described to see if I can find where that plate was installed.

Furthermore, I'll do a search to find out the procedure for getting the data card from the Mercedes Center.

The production # looks to be very low.  Did the #'s start at 00001?

The production No was used for internal factory (production) purposes.
It is a rolling number series, that re-starts at 00001 whenever needed.
The number has no "hidden" meaning to be deciphered
