Now, here is a purist's nightmare( for those who think electronic ignition is heresy). Look at the pix and then read the dealer's glowing description. Never left the garage, indeed!

This car has done the rounds a few months ago. That discussion about the vents in the hood? Looks like it's getting cheaper. But why.....?

Jeez, they spent 15k on the "upgrade"?? and for that they got no heater, no power brakes and a nice piece of a bent over hasp to hold up the coolant overflow bottle.

No offense to anyone who is honest and sells cars in Florida but by and large a pack of liars down there.

I understand this is a late reply, but if anyone needs to know, the 450SL engine will drop-in and bolt right up in a 113.  I saw it done in Phoenix.  The guy who did it said the motor mounts lined up, there is plenty of room for the exhuast, had to shorten the driveshaft I believe for the AT.  The only cutting was to the power steering reservoir.  It had to be shortened to clear the hood.  FYI.

For some reason I am always suspicious when a seller lists what percentage of tire is left...

 "Well I wouldn't even consider a Mercedes with a Ford engine, but hey, wait a minute, it's still got some tread on them tires, I'm gonna buy it!"

It looks like almost everything else on their lot is British (Jaguar, Rolls, etc..).  I believe those are Jaguar seats in that Pagoda.  They were probably trying to make a Mercedes-Benz version of an AC Cobra!  Check the vents in the hood!  [:0]

I bought a 108 series 3.5se 4 speed manual, swapped the complete axles and drive train into my 280sl All you need to do is change rad, make up exhaustsl and cut dowd prop shaft. gives 230 bhp,with uprated brakes, all built by mercedes.                         Much easier and more origional

Must be very nice to drive ! I'm very interested in doing something similar, so I hope you don't mind some questions !

Did you use the V8 engine mounts or did you have to fabricate a custom set ? Any problems with the V8 oil pan clearing the cross-member ? Did you retain your original steering box

Why not a modern V6 (M272) and cut down on front end weight?

I've thought about this as well (a la Mechatronik). But I don't think the installation would be as straightforward, especially connecting up the electronics & interfaces to the computer (eg speed sensors, ABS, automatic, etc).

I would love to install the current 3.5litre V6 & seven-speed auto, but it doesn't seem like a straightforward installation to me, hence the sky-high prices for these conversions from Mechatronik & co.

Mechatronik said anything is possible. I think it's a matter of time and skill as far as conversions are concerned. The 3.5 V6 with a 7G-tronic is my dream too. No ABS needed or a/c.
I believe the hardest thing to do is the engine mount fitting, but Mechatronik did it with the 3.2 V6, so it can be done.
With a V6 there is less weight over the front axle and especially in front of the axle.
