Inquiring minds want to know.  The 230, 250,and 280 engines were pretty much the same.  Question:  Why were so many different combinations of CSV, start valve, timers, adv/retard/curve distributors, temp controls, cutouts, adjusters, etc.  used on the basically same engine?   Bonus question:  Did the factory ever ship two identical systems?

It really is odd -- considering they had it perfect with the 1963 models...  :D

There are lots of running changes. Frank Mallory's magazines listed them change by change, year by year.  Little things like Adding a warm-up on the 250sl intake, only to realize that it caused more harm than good and thus it got yanked.
The mechanical injection pump when though more than 20 revisions to make it go from pretty good, well, better.
