Well......as kind of a side hobby of mine I am starting to collect photos of really *unique* Pagodas.

This one has got to go in. I couldn't take my eyes off the steering wheel.

Admittedly - being one of the newer members I have a limited collection.

1)The Gold Pagoda with the green interior (with the 4 fog lamps)
2) The copper penny colored Pagoda.
3)Can't decide what to call this newest one- the Ferrari Pagoda? Hmmmmmm.
Suggestions?

Something of a "bitsa!"  The seats look remarkably like they came out of a mid-80s Merkur XR4Ti  (Ford Sierra XR4 to you across the pond!) The wheels aren't 230SL either!

So much attention to the intake and the old style "ram horn" exhaust headers.   Talk about choking the chicken.  

S'pose the brakes are up to the challenge?

I was having a wonderful conversation with Jeffc this past week and told him that this post is exactly the reason that I don't feel good about joining in some of the forums. I have always been attracted to this body style and have restored many for customers for the last 25 years but never had a chance to own one until 1999. Well, after restoring my own and never having driven one, I realized that looks only take you so far until some mechanical falure arises and leaves you (or your wife) wondering if and when it will start again. After 5 frustrating years of late night pushes and tows I finally decided that I would own this car for the rest of my exsistence so why not upgrade what I always thought looked more like a tractor engine anyway to something much more dependable. I now average 23 plus mpg and can cruise at 70 mph in overdrive @ 2000 rpm. I was wondering if your posts were poking fun at hybrids or if you are just jealous but when I saw these pics, this is quite ugly. I worked on my engine swap for a year and a half with frequent visits to my friend at the machine shop and alot of research. I altered nothing that could not be unbolted or replaced and kept the interior 100% stock. Ray, as for the "ram horn" exhaust manifolds, mine came from a corvette, they fit better than any other of the 20 manifolds that we tried but I kept the original exhaust and notice no power loss at all!! The radiator and overflow tank and oil cooler I kept MB and hooked the floor shifter up to my overdrive trans. so that without looking under the hood my car looks just like yours. I sent Jeffc some pics.

I think everyone should do with their Pagoda what they want to do as long as they are forthright and honest about it. If you want to make yours more reliable, and easier to maintain, whilst maintaining the original looks you are not alone. http://www.mechatronik.de do the same as well, but with a 3.2 liter Mercedes-Benz engine.

If everything is reversible... good for you. I'd love to see details of your car and it's modifications.

I decided, 2 years ago, that I'd prefer my car to be good, but not perfect... otherwise I would not dare to take my car out on classic car rallies... which is what I really enjoy. If it was perfect, I wouldn't. I still invest money to make it look better, but it's reliability and driving performance are the main factors.

So do not be hesitant... there's enough people that want to learn from your experiences.

Why did'nt I think of this? This would be an easy to convert to Electronic Fuel injection.

I'm not a purist.  If you can make a small block V-8 go in a Pagoda, that's great, for all the reasons you said.  I was just remarking that the performance gains of this particular intake would seem somewhat diminished by the stock header.  The car probably runs great.  But why push all that capacity through a restrictive exhaust?  Just seemed unbalanced.

Wouldn't be much of a forum without other people's opinions.  I'm sure we can benefit from yours.
