What is a 5-Speed 280SL worth?
« on: October 16, 2007, 09:32:32 »
Hello, I came across this website while looking for information about my car.  I have had this car for a few years and know nothing about it.  I hope some of you will be able to answer some questions.

It is a 1967 280SL with a 5-Speed manual.  Blue on grey.  In fairly good condition.  This car is the USA version.  What would a car like this tend to sell for in USD?  Don't need exact numbers, just an idea of what it would be worth.  What makes the 5-Speed so special?  How many were made with the 5-Speed?

Thank you in advance.

It's really impossible to tell what your car is worth without knowing more.  Perhaps you could post a few pictures so the group could take a look.  Prices on these cars range from the low $20's to the high $60s and beyond for decent cars.

The 5-speed is indeed rare and hard to find.  You probabaly can add $5,000 to the price of similarly equipped non-5-speed.  However, the down side to owning one is that if it breaks, you are up the creek as parts are impossible to find.  So, you take on some degree of risk when you own one.

You may also compare yours to the one being offered here as a rough comparision.  http://www.cascadiaclassic.com/zf.html
