I have one mounted on  the rear shelf. I used heavy duty velcro to mount it to the carpet.  One side of the velcro gripes the carpet just fine.  No holes and easy to remove.

Let's see...gasoline, heat, high voltage--all in a tight engine bay.  Having lost a fuel injected car some years ago to a fire, I wouldn't concern myself whether or not you have a carburetor, but you should have a fire extinguisher in and easy to get place.

Mine's mounted in a bracket in front of the passenger seat. The bracket is drilled into the floor... I'd hate for a fire extinguisher to go flying around upon sharp braking.

Both driver and passenger can get at it very easily. Sorry, I have no picture and car is in the shop... receiving stainless steel exhaust, new springs, shock absorbers and a whole stack of other improvements... only costs me 2 arms and a leg  :evil:

Well Peter, with the value of the Dollar vs. the Euro, keep in mind that the same work in the USA might cost 4 arms and 3 legs.  Few have that.

I guess you've never been in an accident.  Some fool runs a stop sign while you're doing 40 mph and that velcro will hardly slow the fire extinguisher down.  Imagine that little steel cylinder hitting the back of your head at that speed.

Actually, I'd probably laugh at the cost of doing it in the US right now. 1€ = ~ $1.47 today. And since my arms and leg are hardly used    for their age and therefore worth a great deal, I suppose having it done in the US would probably only cost me my left arm.

If memory serves, there's a place on a 280 SL for mounting a fire extinguisher on the driver's-side of the floor somewhere.... Can anyone confirm that?

This is a picture of the Halon fire extinguisher mounted in front of the driver's seat. And yes, it's being inspected annually and the rust on the handle is from my drooling over my car. It does not affect the function. As the "descriptions" on eBay say:  "some superficial rust only" And as to loose Gasoline: One time, I had a pressure gage attached using a tee between the fuel filter and the injection pump. I used a rubber hose. It worked fine but when I got to the other end of town, I smelled gas: The rubber hose was not compatible with gasoline and did swell up. It got loose and I had a lot of gas near the battery and the engine. That time I was lucky. One needs luck sometimes.
