Air filter doubt

I am trying to close bussiness with this early 250SL  43 10 000207.

Looking on EPC it doesnt accept car air filter ( that exist in the engine housing - pic)The air filter it accepts as ok is the one in the figure without hose.....Is the air filter in the car an adaptation?

Hello Fernando,

The first diagram is a correct filter assembly.

The second diagram looks like it could be a permanent "oil bath" filtering unit. Was this a possible option on sedans? or W113 cars?  Most early Mercedes diesel engines used the "oil bah" style.

Hi,
the first pic shows the canister for a sedan or coupe. The SL canister is different but the air filter is the same.

The second pic is one of these oil bath types. I've never seen one but I guess there are a few around.

The oil-bath version of the air filter was also available as a 230sl option when delivered to certain countries. Don't know if this option was also available for the 250sl or 280sl.

On another note, the brake booster in that picture is incorrect for the car.

Joe , the strange is that EPC do not accept first diagram as correct
when i use chassis 113043.
But i was 90% convinced that EPC was wrong. Thanks.

My '68 280SL which was built for Kenya came with the oil bath air filter.
Looks exactly like your second air filter picture.

Not sure what you mean by 'mechanic' but from your picture, the booster is clearly vacuum-assisted.  (Or perhaps you mean it was the mechanic who worked on the car that done it!   )    I wonder what car this booster came from....

So, are you buying it?  We want more pictures if you do!

Fernando - possibly the fact that you live in Brazil could mean the car was originally delivered there, or close-by, and that could well mean that it was delivered with the oil-bath filter which, as I understand it, was delivered to countries which at the time did not have the best of roads (lots of dust, sand etc) so the filter had to be more thorough.

Picture #1 shows the air filter assembly for the coupe/cabriolet.  Identified by the long flat snorkel that goes to the upright grille opening.
You have the oil bath type as Cees pointed out.  For dusty conditions.  SImply rinse the filter element in a kerosene type solution to clean out the thick dust and oil contaminants.  Replace the oil with a suitable oil again and then you are off again.
This setup was similiar to the diesel Mercedes models of the era.
