Seat Pads

I'm ready to buy new seat pads and would really welcome ideas on the pads available.  The last discussion that I found was several years ago and the pads, like everything, have gotten more expensive. A full set from Mercedes is nearly $1200. Is there really that much difference from the Millers or GAHH product and mercedes...it's twice the cost.  Don't want to cheap out but $1200 for pads?

What do you mean by pads, the leather surfaces or horsehair pads?  GAHH supposedly produces a nice set for the 113.  www.cabrio.de makes the horsehair seating pad and I think even the spring box.  Don't try to save a buck on the seats, they are one of the most visible and most used parts of the car.  My two cents.

I'm referring to the "horsehair" pads as my skins are in nice shape (sure, it would be nice to have new ones but the "pantina" is nice on them).  Kevin at Millers said the pads are actually a mass of coconut fiber if i remember correctly. GAAH also calls the pads rubberized. Local mercedes dealers could not tell me anything other than price.

I just got a set of the horsehair pads from KHM for my 356 Porsche.  Seat, back and spring basket, $400 shipped. They are excellent. www.cabrio.de

I replaced my old horsehair pads with a new set from GAHH and they are fine.  You can't see that they are not horsehair and they are very comfortable.  I believe if you have a 230SL they need to be trimmed as the seats in the 230SL are a bit narrower than the 250s and 280s

You can still buy horsehair pads.   I just recovered my seats and replaced the horsehair pads with pads from worldupholstery.   www.worlduph.com  I think I paid around $500 and they feel just like the original.

You can always buy a combination of memory foam and some more firm foam and carve your own pad. Its probably what mechs orthopedic seats are made out of

There are still OE seat pads available at MB Parts for late 250 & 280SLs.  Parts numbers 113 914 03 14 left seat, 113 914 04 14 right seat, and 113 914 01 16 seat back.  I just ordered pads from MB parts, and my parts guy said MB computer inventory shows 40 sets in stock on shelves in US.  I'm sure pricer, but with 10% discount to MBCA members, not far off price of after market pads.
