Just before start up...

I'm still very new at this.... When I put the key in the ignition switch turn it and prepare to start my car just before I engage the starter and turn the engine over I'm hearing something that might be a pump running or electric motor of some sort that I'm guessing is under the hood and is activated by my putting the key in and turning it. I should say my car starts and runs very well so there is nothing wrong I'm just trying to put my finger on what that sound is, possibly a fuel delivery pump of some sort? Would anyone be able to help me understand what is being activated and what it is doing?  Thanks!

Robert

The electric fuel pump is under the car not far from the front of the left rear tire. The pump starts and makes a clicking sound when the key is turned.

Some of us give the pump a few seconds to click away before we turn the key to the final position to start the engine.

Robert,

The fuel pump activates in the last key position before starter.  I let mine run for a few seconds before ignition to prime system.
