Becker Restoration

Sorry if this has been asked, but I have searched and searched and not found the answer.

I have a Becker Mexico from my '66 230 SL. It works, although it only tunes a very few stations in. There is also a fair amount of pitting on the faceplate and knobs.

- Any experience with sending a unit to Becker North America?
- About what did a full resto cost?
- What was included in the resto?

Not sure what the cost is but it'll look like brand new when they are finished with it.  While it's at Becker you may want to consider them installing something for an mp3 player.

I found Ed Ebel of Becker North America to be a good, reliable source of information and services. My suggestion is to look in the Tech Manual Supplier list for Becker and ask Ed.

I had a Mexico overhauled. Everything worked but it tuned in only a few stations, Cosmetically it was good.

The cost was about $200 + shipping. It now tunes in many more stations but not all.  Tape player works fine. Incidentally, there is a gadget available that looks like a cassette, with a pigtail hanging out. You put it into the tape drive, plug an IPOD or other source into the wire pigtale, and play your IPOD thru the car radio. This cost is about $20 at Target

$200 would probably be good news, I'm preparing myself for $300 to $400.

Just now noticed that your Mexico is for a 66 230sl. Your radio (maybe even tube type) and mine which was for 70 & 71 pagodas are probably different. Don't put much reliance on my $200 repair cost.
