So what do these codes mean on my data card ?
« on: October 22, 2003, 09:51:36 »
Does anyone know what the following codes mean in the box entitled "Wenig GerXXXX??" (cant make it out) codes are 323 and 328.

I've figured out the rest but despite searching the web I cant figure these. I reckon its something to do with paint/ undersealer maybe ?

Anybody ?

Ben,
With the other 32/x codes being related to package or delivery prep, I would assume it has something to do with that.  I would write (or call) the classic center and ask.  When I requested my data card copy I explicity asked them to explain the codes.  They included a letter for me explaining my codes.

"Wenig gewunscht" means "not very popular" so these are comparatively rare options.

The Classic Centre in Germany have replied that these Codes represent "Special Packing for Export Cars".

Whatever that means !

So now you know !!

Then again......surely these would appear on the data sheets of all cars except German ones ?

Anyone else have those numbers ?
Should they be added to the data base ?

Hey Ben

On my '63 Euro, one of my "Wenig Gewunscht" items is 325. I have traced it to an early radio/phone option. While the unit is sadly long-gone, I have confirmed that they were an option and it seems the wiring is still on the car (along with an auxillary 40 AMP fuse)...

My car was delivered to The Netherlands.  Could 324 be the wiring or set-up for this? See any clues on the passenger side of engine bay?

James,
I will have to dig out my data card and letter of explanation from the Classic Center.  I believe I have the 324 & 325 codes for the laquer.  I'll let you know.

How did you track down your code as a radio/phone option?

Hey guys when I did a search the other day of both 113 site I use, this and Dorians, one of the "data card" searches revealed a link. I think it was to an Austrailian MB site with a comprehensive data card code list for new and old MB's.

I spotted the telephone kit and the various similar codes which talk about "preparation for handset" and "prewiring" and the like but I assume that is for much newer MB's where they have simply used the same code numbers but for different models it means different things.

I dont believe a car phone was ever on the option lis for 113 cars, but I'm willing to be corrected !

As abit of a new guy to 230 ownership, even if remote, I am assuming that the "data card" everybody talks about is info you can get from MB about a particular vehicle. What info do you need to send them and where do you send it too?
Thanks

Allegedly, here.... and as a suggestion, it seems OK to ask for an explanation of the codes.....

Order a copy of the data card via;
FAX: + 49 7 11 / 17 / 8 34 56
Telephone: + 49 7 11 / 17 / 8 40 40

You may also send a written request to:

Be sure to include the following information with your request:
Proof of ownership (copy of registration or official title)
chassis number
engine number

For further information, you may also contact Mr. Till Dillenburger at DaimlerChrysler.

Ben, where did your car originally come from? All I know is my cars history from 1997 where it was stripped to the bare chassis and rebuilt. I would love to know its previous history. I have no history on the engine and yet she is like new, goes like a train and not a speck of smoke. I changed the oil and used Duckams 20/50. I note Castrol have an oil out esp for classics at twice the price. Duckams state their oil is just as good.

My car was originally shipped to the UK, somewhere in the South Coast I believe, although I cant quiet remember what led me to the South Coast but anyway, I have history on  mine from early '70's in terms of ownership records.

It spent from 1973 to 1989 in the US, California then Texas. Then it was bought by a UK Classic Car Company and brought back. It got a new interior and a mediocre paint job at that point which it still wears ! :(

Anyway those code numbers I would expect to see on any other UK car at least !

I'm using Semi Synth 10W40 at the moment. I used mineral 10W40 for the first 1000 miles on the new engine to let it bed in. I plan to try a 15W40 semi synth when I change the oil next week.......just to see !

BTW since I saw yours I have decided to go for a full paint job early next year !!  :) Currently have new carpets and a few other trim bits waiting to go in ! too much DIY at home keeps getting in the way !

Ben,

car phones really were an option in W 113s, at least on the Continent, according to Engelen's book.  It has listings of the options available in a few different years, and there were a couple of phone options.
