TEMP GAUGE

I have a 1965 230sl and the temp sender/gauge is apparently all one unit. The copper pipe that connects the two is broken off near the sender and therefore does not work. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution for this. Mercedes will refurb the old one for a little over a twelve hundred pounds but I cant justify this sort of outlay. I dont want to fit a non period gauge and would like to keep it looking original if possible.

Send both pieces to Palo Alto Speedo in California and ask Hartmut to fix it. Around $200US. They will do all kinds of repair/restoration/upgrade on guages & clocks Ive used them a hundred times  kb

The Farenheit gage is big bucks but the centigrade one is a lot cheaper. Exact fit, just different calibration.

Get one at a junk yard(or whatever they're called there).  The filled thermal system moves the pointer.  Attach it to the dial.  The dial is either graduated in F or C.  The pointer could care less.  It moves to the same spot at 212F and 100C.  Same one was used on 220SEs, 250SEs, etc in the 50s and 60s.   Or you can send me a mere $1200 plus shipping. Wow, at that price I'll deliver.   Welcome----
