VIN location

Sorry for the simple question, but where on the car do I find the VIN and mfrg date?  Thank you

VIN plate is on the right firewall under the hood.  VIN is also stamped into the right chassis member under aluminum intake manifold.  Later ones had plate on left door jam.  Production dates vs. VINs are listed on this Forum.  List the VIN here and someone will name the date.

Andrew,

You have a late-model US-spec car, so I'm guessing it's in the driver's side door jamb. You can't miss it.

Also on Euro-spec cars, there is a vin plate in driver's side of windsheld, along the post.

Thank you Doug and Glennard.  1) where exactly is the door jamb, i took a look at my door and couldn't find it

44 means 280SL.  23000+ means last months of production.  Missing a VIN digit?  '71 280SL?
