Bracket for radio support?
« on: July 11, 2008, 16:46:11 »
The back of my blaupunkt radio is unsupported in the car.  Someone wedged cardboard and stuff under the radio for support.  I have seen on a german website (which I can't find at present) a mounting bracket that is L-shaped that connects to the back of the radio and then slides into some sort of space in the back of the dash.  Can anyone provide me with a source for this part?  Or other suitable parts for mounting the radio?  Apologies for cross-posting this to "Wanted" and "Electrical".  Thanks, Scott

The "L" mounting brackets are no longer available as a new part.  They are "L" shaped with a spring loaded clamp on it.  This clamp slides on to a ledge on the firewall, directly in back of the cut out for radio.  If you look in toward the firewall, thrught the cut out you will see the ledge.  The spring clamp allows the bracket to hold the radio from the back, and is easy to put out when taking the radio out.  The "L" bolts to back of radio.

You may try to contact Becker of North America to see if they might have one laying around form the radios they get in to repair.

This is probably the web site you had seen:
http://www.koenigs-klassik-radios.de/_py_Ersatzteile-Blaupunkt-Radiohalter-fuer-Mercedes-Pagode--H11/a-36109-32-49-0-0-0/
The piece is identical for Becker and Blaupunkt, so Becker of NA should have it.
You'll still need the other part but a normal L bracket might do.

Yes, this is the site and that is the part.  I'll see if Becker NA can provide the part.  But I'm confused -- you say I'll still need the other part for normal L bracket installation -- from the way I see this, the part at the URL has a clamp on one end that connects to a horizontal piece that sticks into the interior from the firewall, and the other end of the piece has a grove in it that would accomodate a bolt that would go directly into the back of the radio.  So I'm not understanding what additional part I would need....

Sorry, I thought you are also missing that one.

I made the "L" bracket with piece of flat galvanized steel 1.25" W x 1/16" thick & bent it into the "L" shape in a vise. Then drilled hole for attachment to the radio.  For the spring steel that clips to the firewall flange, I used a houshold window spring clip made to repair old windows that slips into the window side channels. Steel & spring clip purchased at local True Value hardware store. I had to cut the length of the spring clip & then drilled two holes, side by side, & attached it to the 'L" bracket.  I did this several years ago & now not able to give exact measurements. I wish I had made a pic of it.
