Screws, Nuts and Bolts
« on: November 04, 2003, 10:47:06 »
During my restoration, I have lost (or the platers) quite a few of the screws, nuts and bolts used to assemble trim on the car, also many were not original and were rusting. Many of the chrome ones are not available at hardware stores. Any ideas where we might pick these up. My local M/B dealer does not have access to the majority. Also, how do we know what the correct size, type were ??

Most of the 'hardware' is available thru the classic center (to those of us in Europe) in Germany.
However, you do have to have the parts book to work out what to order.
Albert had mentioned the 113 book which lists available parts with part numbers and euro prices. Its a good place to start.

Last winter I had the same problem because a lot of screws and bolts on my 280sl were not original. I inspected an old W115 and found out that many screws and bolts were of the same sise and form. I started to collect good looking screws, bolts and clamps from abandonned W115's and used them to replace wrong ones on my pagoda. That looks or at least feels now much better.
