Tie rod annoyance

I am unable to turn and adjust the left-hand screw ends of either of the new replacement tie rods I have. The tie rods are screwed all the way into their adjusting sleeves and won't budge. The right-hand screw ends turn easily in the sleeves, but I would have to screw these ones out almost to their ends to match the lengths on my old tie rods. I would like to more-or-less "balance" the number of threads on each end, but maybe I don't really need to anyway. In any event, I can't figure a way to hold the rod and turn the stuck end without risking damage to the tie rod. Anyone run into this?

I think so. I believe that one end screws in clockwise, while the other end screws in counter-clockwise.

Silly question, but did you make sure the cinch bolt is loosened? (on the rod side)

I would soak the offending thread in penetrant overnight, and then use a bench vise for the tie-rod and a pipe wrench for the tie-rod end. Judiciously placed shop-rags should prevent major scratches, etc.  Just make sure you know which way the threads are going!
