What is end piece? Speaker Dust Filter
« on: October 10, 2008, 17:19:41 »
There is a piece which appears to be installed under the wood speaker grille on the dash. I am not sure the purpose of this piece or its material composition. It is listed in Mercedes parts manual as End Piece, part no. 111-680-50-67. It is also marked as item no. 113 in MB Owner's parts book on Covering and Lining page. Obviously, I am missing this piece in my car. Local Mercedes dealer says it is no longer available. Miller's does not list this part either.

Can anyone please describe this part for me? I will have one made if deemed necessary.

Thanks.

This item is a dust screen to protect the speaker.

Robert is correct: it's a dust shield. It's a simple piece of cardboard covered in black paper with small rubber feet at the corners. If your center speaker isn't in use, it may make sense to have this in place to protect the speaker from deterioration or to just block dust from getting behind the dash to a degree. (Anyone who has had a car in a body shop for any period of time knows how invasive that kind of dust can be.)

I had one of these covers in my last 280SL because it was a late-model with a pair of the optional stereo speakers in the kick panels. I don't believe there was ever a speaker in the center of the dash. It was empty in there.
