Just thought I'd share my blog. I know its no where near as nice as the SL's on this board but its still my baby. Being only 22 and still in school as much as I wanted, I knew it wasn't the best decision to put all my money into a nice SL, so I bought a crappy one, and slowing putting all my money into it . Anyway the blog shows a bit of what I've done so far to it. I've never done anything shown there before and wanted to thank the forum for all the help. For all the "waste of money" comments if anyone's got em, try and keep them to yourself. This car probably should have just gone for scrap metal, but I really liked these cars and wanted to work on one sorta as a side hobby, so that's what I got. Anyways thanks again.

I think most people here are oblivious to the phrase "waste of money"     In fact, we're downright allergic to the concept of what makes financial sense.... which is why we love our Pagodas so much.

It looks like you're quite far into this 'hobby'. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted!

By most definitions, the car is a waste of money. As is restoring it, improving it, fettling it, polishing it.

And at 22, shouldn't you (717) be trolling on Facebook or playing some war-games online or something far more useful?    You are a braver man than I. But then, I am about as handy as a fish

Jon, you get my respect, at least you will know your car inside and out!

I too have a 1964 230SL and it is also my pride & joy, I have had a look at your blog and it looks like it is coming along wonderfully, keep up the good work. I will check in from time to time to see how you are progressing.

Personally I think that every cent spent on one of these beautiful cars is well worth it, so take your time and get it how you want it. Most of all enjoy it when ever you take it out on the road.

You have great passion and you are doing a great job.  I have the same color combo and like yours it needs a lot of work.  Its worth it because you will see the results and it feels good to see the progress.  Keep posting updates because I think your doing a great job.

Good for you, I respect all the work you've done so far. You have a long way to go in some spots but you seem to have the determination to see it through. Hang in there, its lookin good.

Impressive.  My car needed a lot of work too but mostly cosmetics. The biggest job I ever did was remove the bumpers! Others, were just minor things like taking the headlamps apart...

The secret - don't keep a tab on how much has been spent on the car!  I keep the receipts but never add them up so I have no idea how much I've spent so far!  As they say, ignorance is bliss...

Wow, good work.  Cutting out and replacing metal seems like such a big job, kudos to you for taking it on.  As you've probably learned by now, these are great cars to tinker with, I love the way they're engineered.  The more pieces you take apart, the more you appreciate them!  Have fun.

I've finished paint, carpets & most of the interior.

breaks, rear end, suspension...

Mate, keep going with it ! I have been there and know what it means to have to cut, weld, file finish, etc. Mine was a rusted out hack. But now she is better than new ! In the midst of putting in the new interior and renewing all the suspension components. At the end of the day it's an immensely satisfying journey. Take a look at some of my pics. They'll show you what had to be done, and what eventuates !
