You have it correct. Here is a photo from the site to illustrate

(if the link does not work, go to the photo gallery, then to the '67 250SL thread, the first photo is the one that shows the designations on the trunk)

Thanks Jonny, while we are at it,would you know the significance,if any,of the raised chrome dots on the top of the chrome beading around the headlamps? Thanks

The raised dots are the heads of two rivets used for attaching a little metal tab to the inside of the chrome ring. This tab is used for 'hooking' the chrome ring to the headlight frame from the top. The bottom of the chrome ring is attached via a single chrome screw.

(this assumes you have the Euro headlight chrome ring)

Mine (original)are the same on both sides.  Maybe you have two different covers?  Original and aftermarket?

Very odd, I've never seen the chrome ring with only one dot.

In fact, even the US version headlights have two dots on the chrome surround.

I just checked my 111 coupe, and that also has the two dots over each chrome headlight surround. You can barely see the dots on the right headlight surround here:

I confirm Waqas's observation... my early 250SL (US version, original) has both "dots" on the top of the headlight chrome surround.... same reason & function as on the Euro version.
