Off-topic: automatic transmission interchangeability
« on: November 12, 2008, 22:03:01 »
Sorry this is completely off-topic, but does anyone know if an automatic transmission from a 108 sedan (280se, straight-six, 1972) will fit in a 115 sedan (220, four-banger, 1972) ?

Thanks in advance!

Can't tell you if there are physical differences, e.g. dimensions, due to installation in the different bodies, but both have the identical ratios:
3.98 - 2.39 - 1.46 - 1.0 - R5.47
and the same designation: K4C 025

Hello Waqas,

It will fit just fine. even the torque converter is the same.  Chances are  you will find it working acceptable without going to much trouble. Some linkage arms may be a different length (easy change).  The external modulator may be different between the four and six and the valve body itself in the trans could be different.  Check your Technicl Data Book to be sure.   Chances are you would find it quite acceptable without changing anything except any different linkage arms.
