Carpet peices available indidividually?
« on: November 23, 2003, 15:15:15 »
Hi,
I really need the piece of carpet under the drivers feet for my blue interior 280SL and was wondering if the separate pieces are available anywhere.

Shvegel,

Originally there was not "carpet" under the driver's or passenger's feet, only floor mats.  Either you have carpeted floor mats or you have historically carpet. It's probably not uncommon to have the carpet replaced incorrectly during a restoration by someone who didn't know any better on this unusual point.

Thanks,

Rod,
My car is a 1970 280SL and the carpet does appear to be original. The car sat for 23 years before I came by it and the carpet appears to be consistent in color and quality. It also has snaps to hold it to the floor.

Gahh and World Uphol. will both supply individual pieces.

113 chassis stopped making  front rubber floor mat covering in Dec of 1967. Replaced w/carpet.

"It also has snaps to hold it to the floor."

"113 chassis stopped making front rubber floor mat covering in Dec of 1967. Replaced w/carpet."

I will bet that they are seperate carpted floor mats.  I make this distinction because "carpet in the foot well" indicates to me that one piece of carpet goes from one door jamb across to the other.

Regardless, you should be able to get them replaced with original style material.  Let us know how it goes!
