Spare Parts List
This section is part of Documentation.
With a new car the owner received an illustrated Parts Catalog (Catalog "B") showing the spare parts that were available for that car at the time of delivery. However, these booklets did not identify parts by their part numbers, such spare parts lists were only available to Mercedes dealers and authorized repair shops. The ID number of lists with part numbers starts with 10 (10XXX) and when buying those in the secondary market one needs to be careful to distinguish them from Parts Catalogs that start with a 12 (12XXX).
The first complete illustrated spare parts list for the 230SL (Edition A) and subsequent editions listed chassis parts and engine parts but those for the 250SL/280SL cars do not! Edition A covers only those 230SL manufactured until the end of July 1963 and edition B those until the end of November 1964. These two early editions list the DIN numbers screws but in addition also the size, edition C and the 250SL/280 lists show only the DIN number.
This spare parts list (10128) for the 250SL is extremely rare since it was followed shortly by Edition A of the combined 250SL-280SL spare parts list.
In addition to the international parts lists shown above another set was issued for the USA market that included parts present only on cars sold in the North American market. Here is an example:
Note: With arrival of the 250SL the parts for the M129 engine and later for the M130 engine in the 280SL were issued in separate lists, they are no longer included in the spare parts list for the cars!
Caution: This M130 spare parts list is valid only for fuel injected engines, another list (M 130V) covered carbureted engines!
Spare parts with part numbers for the automatic DB transmission for the W113 cars are covered also in a separate list:
All of these printed spare parts lists are no longer available from the factory but some of the lists are available on a CD-ROM from the on-line web-shop at the Classic Center in Germany.
Although these spare parts list are very comprehensive and and almost 100% error free they are not quite sufficient to identify a particular part's dimemnsion and finish, especially when these are standardized DIN parts. To identify such parts unambiguously Mercedes published a "Survey of Standar Parts (DIN)" book and a "Schlüsselliste" = "Conversion List" for the decoding. Here is picture showing the cover pages of these two books and what they contain:
