I need music!
« on: August 29, 2007, 11:19:00 »
My Pagoda came to me with a BIG hole in it's dash where the radio used to be. Sad. There  are wires and a funny-looking plug with *pins* left. Also missing is the large speaker on top of the dash. Are these still made?

Antenna? Mine is gone, too. Just the chrome "bump" left on fender. Can I get a replacement? Manual or retractable (electric)?

I (think)I want to buy a Becker, and unsure if the Grand Prix, Europa, or Europa 2 is what I need to buy. What are the differences? Any cool features I should be looking for. Will I need an Amp?
There are speakers which look original, about 5" square/silver color.

I will need to get it iPod accessible. What will I need for this?

Some on eBay come with mounting brackets- will I need these?

And then- the family bought me an iPod accessible modern radio for the Mercedes before  they knew about keeping it as original as possible.

Can a Becker accomodate the modern conveniences? I prefer to keep everything looking original, if possible. But not sure it's possible.

EBay prices are all over the road. Is there a resource which sells good equipment that is preferred over eBay?
Again I need to call on the wisdom here.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Ann,
there may be more opinions and even more information about iPod and becker radios and antennas on this site than you ever want to know about.  ;)

Hi Ann,
Im in a similar position to you with just a hole in the dash.Im very tempted by the Becker Mexico Retro.Original looks with very modern internals.I suppose it may depend how often you are going to use your car as it is not a cheap option.Ive seen it on sale in the UK for around $1500.Perhapes it is cheaper in the States.Every thing else seems to be.

Good Luck

Hey Ann. As Alfred suggests, there is a ton of information on radios here in the archives. But that's not half as fun as hearing it live! So, I think the Becker is a great way to go. You mention you have speakers -- are they in the footwells? Those could be originals and would indicate you once had a stereo version (most likely Becker Europa II). And I believe that would also mean, you did not have a dash speaker. (guys correct me if I am wrong...)

As far as antennas, both manual and electric are still available. Mine is a replacement manual (bought from Miller's). Works fine. I also have the Europa II that I like a lot because its stereo and has a built-in amp. It also has Ipod cable -- which is so cool. Good luck.
